“In my family, the Eyrignac Manor Gardens have always been handed down to son or daughter, for the last 500 years : 22 generations have been following since the construction of the first castle or “Repaire Noble”.

During the war called “La Fronde des Princes” in the 17th century, in revolt against Mazarin, my ancestor was a loyal supporter: the Grand Condé’s troops revenged themselves on Eyrignac and burnt down the first castle, dating back to the Middle Ages.

The Manor was built by Antoine de Costes de la Calprenède in the 17th century on the ruins of the former “Repaire Noble”. The first gardens were created in the 18th century by Louis-Antoine Gabriel de la Calprenède (great-grandson of Antoine), who had a large fortune : French garden inspired by the 18 th century Italian design. They were totally modified into an English romantic garden in the 19 th century, following the fashion of the time.
M. Sermadiras brought the French Gardens of Eyrignac back to life.

My father, Gilles Sermadiras, wanted to recreate them in the spirit of 18th century. He was looking for its own inspiration and searched the original traces of the former garden: low walls, stairs, former ponds, etc … He drew by himself the plan of the garden he always dreamt of and that fit to his personality.
I now preside over the destinies of this “secret garden” and try every single day to do homage to my father creativity and to live on in his work with strictness and passion.“
Patrick Sermadiras De Pouzols De Lile.
